Abstract
[The Christian cultural God and the cybernetic spiritual machine]. The essay focuses on the relationship between religion and modern technology, the non-technical essence of which is exemplified by cybernetics as a ‘spiritual machine’. Starting with Heidegger's notion of ‘de-divinization’ as set out in he Age of the World Picture, it traces the transformation of Christianity into the Christian worldview through the Kantian concept of faith as ‘Fürwahrhalten’, and then into Christian culture and finally into the religion of man, as spirit capable of redeeming matter by elevating it to a reflective form. The final phase of this de-divinisation is reinterpreted through the work of Gotthard Günther and his revival of Hegelian philosophy. In The Consciousness of Machines (1957), he states that the Hegelian doctrine of objective spirit is the philosophical parallel of cybernetic theories of systems that can reflect on and organise themselves and their environment.

Sommario
