Abstract
[Ideas for a debate on the humanities in the CNR. The mirror of a crisis]. The purpose of this paper is to initiate a debate on the “state of health” of the humanities within Italy’s largest research institution. Looking back over its history, in fact, it seems that the humanities are almost somehow a foreign body in the life of this institution. In the last 15 years, though, the need to harmonize them in the life of the CNR has emerged in different ways, which seem, however, to reflect the deep-rooted crisis and the profound transformations that mark the humanities today. The present contribution has an exploratory value, in the hope of resuming and enriching an increasingly urgent debate, which calls into question the civil role and the very survival of humanistic studies.

Sommario
Con questo contributo si intende avviare un dibattito sullo “stato di salute” delle discipline umanistiche all’interno del più grande ente di ricerca italiano. Ripercorrendone la storia, infatti, si ha la sensazione che le scienze umane si inseriscano quasi come un corpo estraneo nella vita dell’Ente. Negli ultimi 15 anni, tuttavia, è emersa in maniera diversa l’esigenza di armonizzarle nella vita del CNR, con tentativi i cui risultati sembrano comunque riflettere la crisi radicata e le trasformazioni profonde che segnano oggi scienze umane. Il presente contributo ha un valore esplorativo, nell’auspicio di riprendere e arricchire un dibattito sempre più urgente, che mette in discussione il ruolo civile e la stessa sopravvivenza degli studi umanistici.
