Facets of the Modern
Emerging from the first seminar devoted to the concept of the Modern, organised by the CNR Istituto per la storia del pensiero filosofico e scientifico moderno (ISPF, Institute for the History of Philosophy and Science), this volume brings together a series of reflections engaging with one of the most complex and consequential categories in Western culture. Drawing on a range of perspectives and approaches, the contributors explore the modern as an experience of time, crisis, progress, and the transformation of knowledge. Rather than offering a single, definitive account, the volume proposes a dialogue that brings out the richness and tensions inherent in a category that continues to challenge contemporary thought, and around which the ISPF has, over the years, developed a plurality of research trajectories.
